On June 29th, the Charity Run “Recruit Honor Run” will take place. This event is a manifesto of the values that should unite Ukrainians today: being resilient, overcoming difficulties, and putting in maximum effort to achieve victory. This event reminds us that we are running a marathon, not a sprint. Victory will come to the most enduring.
100% of the registration fees will be directed towards the needs of the International Legion (Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine). Courage, bravery, determination, and an active civic and life position are how comrades, relatives, and acquaintances remember Recruit.
Oleksiy Chubashev was a military journalist, posthumously promoted to Major of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, a participant in the Russo-Ukrainian war, and the author and host of Ukraine’s first military reality show, “Recruit.UA”. He was also the former head of Military Television of Ukraine and the radio station “Army FM”.
In the “Recruit.UA” project, Oleksiy showcased the training of various units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces from the inside, allowing many civilians to see what the army is like and find their place in the military.
Oleksiy chose the path of a military man in school when he entered the Kyiv Military Lyceum named after Ivan Bohun in 2008 and began studying journalism at the Military Institute of Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko in 2010. After graduating in 2015, he started serving in the Central Television and Radio Studio of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (CTRS MOD), participating in the Anti-Terrorist Operation in eastern Ukraine.
In 2021, Oleksiy transferred to the reserve and focused on his own media projects. However, on February 24, 2022, he once again took up arms to defend Ukraine. As a volunteer, Oleksiy participated in the defense of Kyiv and later joined the International Legion of the Main Intelligence Directorate.
Three months later, on June 10, 2022, Oleksiy Chubashev died in eastern Ukraine during the assault on Sievierodonetsk.
Sports were always a priority in his life. Oleksiy dedicated much attention to this topic, organizing sports online challenges and supporting such initiatives from others. He was passionate about running and inspired others to lead an active lifestyle by his example.
The last post on his page was published by his wife, Yuliya:
“…We are all mourning Chubashev now, but we must understand that he lived a life. He lived his 30 years, not just existed. This is important to understand. He had a mission, vision, dreams, doubts, failures, victories, friends, enemies, goals, love, hatred… and he accepted this life, lived it, and was grateful to God for it. I believe he fulfilled his duty. Our task now is not to waste his sacrifice and the sacrifices of many others. … Let’s be conscious. Let’s win this war. And this will be the best gratitude to him. It will mean that his mission continues”.
These words aptly convey the essence of the Recruit Honor Run. The best thing we can do now is to be united, stay focused on the main goal, support the Armed Forces, continue running our distance, and never give up. The Recruit Honor Run is the continuation of the mission and ideas that Oleksiy brought to society.
Let’s #run together to become stronger for our common victory and in eternal honor of the Ukrainian hero.
